Skills for an Uncertain World - Webinar series

Scientists taking part in an interactive online career development and science communication webinar

NaturalScience.Careers offers an open-ended series of free online events addressing some of the most pressing issues that young scientists face today:

How to make a living in an increasingly tight labour market, how to work and apply for jobs in a world increasingly shaped by AI, how to overcome science-specific pitfalls when communicating with the wider world, how to find meaning in your work… and many others.

For now, we have four interactive 60-minute sessions scheduled (see below). Follow us on LinkedIn to stay up to date on new sessions.

Finding a job after your PhD or postdoc can be challenging, especially in a tight labour market. We’ll explore practical job-search strategies to help you identify opportunities, strengthen your applications, and stand out.

When? 10 December 2026, 20:00-21:00 CET

How? Zoom link for the meeting. Meeting ID 837 5001 0756, Security Code 978082. Registration required.

We’ll publish the webinar link here and on our LinkedIn page about two weeks before the event.

If you’re a coordinator looking for a broader event for your graduate school or research cluster, you might be interested in the full workshop PhD! And, next?

Scientific evidence doesn’t always translate into public understanding or political action. We’ll explore how effective science communication can help researchers reach audiences beyond academia and amplify their voices.

When? 17 February 2027, 20:00-21:00 CET.

We’ll publish the webinar link here and on our LinkedIn page about two weeks before the event.

Our workshop Storytelling for Scientists allows you to dive much deeper into the topics we discuss in this webinar.

Meaningful work and financial security don’t have to be mutually exclusive. We’ll explore how scientists can find purpose, develop their careers and create societal impact without sacrificing their personal well-being.

When? 15 March 2027, 20:00-21:00 CET.

We’ll publish the webinar link here and on our LinkedIn page about two weeks before the event.

Philipp has written the book Careers with Impact, which dives deeper into the topics of this webinar. The workshop Societal impact for scientists expands on the topics we discuss in this webinar.

The series draws on our experience supporting scientists in their career development and science communication, as well as insights from Philipp’s new book, Careers with Impact – A Practical Guide to Purpose-Driven Work. Each session is free, self-contained and open to anyone with a science background.

You can check our full workshop programme for all the topics we can cover. Please contact us if you’d like to learn more about the possibilities.
