A note on gender neutrality

In order to show respect to both genders equally, different ways of addressing a readership (m/f/d) with written texts have been developed, often at the expense of linguistic elegance… or even just basic readability. As our old company name ScienceMums implies, we respect and support the concept behind gender neutral language. However, we also want you to enjoy reading our texts without forcing Shakespeare to turn around in his cold grave… So we have decided to just mix the gender randomly when addressing an abstract person in a text. For example, “If a professor is giving feedback into her team…” or “If a professor is giving feedback into his team…” Believe us, after several years in close contact with the gender topics we haven´t found a way to make everyone happy. This is simply our solution to combine readability and gender neutrality. We hope you enjoy reading our texts!
